Tesla Registers 79 New Robotaxis in Texas in One Today

Tesla has registered 79 additional vehicles, bringing the number of Model Y robotaxi vehicles registered in Texas to 270. The new filings came shortly after Tesla extended daily service hours and outlined updates to its unsupervised fleet.

Registered Fleet Rises

A community robotaxi tracker recorded 79 new registrations today, increasing the total from 191 to 270 vehicles—an increase of 41.4 percent in Texas. These figures are based on vehicle registrations required by the state, not operational usage, so a registration does not confirm that a car is already carrying riders or operating without supervision. Still, paired with recent announcements, the data indicates Tesla is preparing to significantly scale its Texas fleet.

Yesterday, Tesla announced that its unsupervised fleet is now larger and that vehicles are operating for longer periods with improved intelligence.

Tesla has not disclosed its total fleet size and is unlikely to share it until the number grows consistently and reaches a scale comparable to other autonomous operators in the region. For reference, Waymo currently has 736 robotaxis registered in Texas.

Improved Robotaxi Hours

Tesla informed riders that robotaxi service now runs daily from 6 a.m. through 10 p.m. The company also said its unsupervised fleet had grown “a lot” and that it enhanced routing and vehicle distribution intelligence, which is expected to streamline routing and reduce wait times.

Texas Robotaxi History

Tesla began public Robotaxi rides in Austin on June 22, 2025. The invite-only launch used about 20 Model Ys, with a safety monitor in the front passenger seat of every vehicle.

This April, Tesla opened unsupervised service in Dallas, Houston, and various parts of Florida. The service has since expanded to new regions more quickly, and growth may accelerate once the Cybercab launches, as Tesla has said it is deliberately holding back robotaxi expansion until the Cybercab is available.
