According to Drive Tesla Canada, Tesla has updated its Canadian configurator to show that new Model Y orders now include a darker headliner and an upgraded central display.

These changes bring Canadian builds in line with updates seen in other markets. There had been uncertainty about availability in Canada, particularly as new shipments were arriving from Gigafactory Berlin to avoid heavy tariffs on Chinese and U.S. imports.

Luxury Interior Upgrades

Tesla introduced these Model Y updates in China last month to help unify the interior experience across the lineup.

The most visible change is the switch from a light grey headliner to a black Alcantara-style fabric. While the new Model Y Standard — Tesla's cheapest Model Y to date — continues to list the grey headliner for now, the black finish is now standard on Premium and Performance trims in Canada.

The dark headliner in the Model Y is coming to the Model 3.

The center display is also being upgraded. All Canadian Model Y trims, including the entry-level Standard variant, now come with a larger 16-inch QHD display, replacing the previous 15.4-inch unit. The extra 0.6 inches adds 3 square inches of screen real estate and brings thinner bezels, higher contrast, and a resolution of 2560x1440. References in Tesla's website code suggest these same upgrades are headed to the 2026 Model 3 lineup soon.

What This Means for New Orders

If you place an order today, the configurator confirms these updated interior features. Early batches of Model Y vehicles exported to Canada from Giga Berlin may not include the new screen or headliner because they were built before the production changeover.

Tesla recently enabled lease buyouts for all models in Canada.

A More Refined Future

Tesla's approach to supply chain efficiency means that when a newer part becomes standard in one factory, it typically rolls out elsewhere to maximize volume pricing. With Giga Berlin now producing vehicles for Canada with these interior updates, that rollout is underway.
