Tesla announced another update to its Robotaxi network: service hours now run from 6 am through 10 pm, 7 days a week, and the unsupervised fleet is "a lot bigger." The company also says vehicle distribution and routing now use upgraded intelligence intended to shorten wait times.
Launch to Unsupervised Rides
Tesla launched its public Robotaxi service in Austin on June 22, 2025. The initial invite-only rollout used roughly 20 Model Ys and included a safety monitor in the front passenger seat.
In December 2025, the company began testing unsupervised Robotaxis in Austin, and a month later it started offering some public rides without a safety monitor.
This year brought larger milestones: the Robotaxi network expanded to Dallas and Houston in April. Last month, Tesla launched unsupervised Robotaxi rides in Miami, followed by Orlando and Tampa just weeks later.
How Big Is Tesla's Robotaxi Fleet
Tesla doesn’t publish robotaxi vehicle counts, but community tracking estimates about 85 active commercial Robotaxis across the company’s live markets, though that figure is not official.
The announcement arrived earlier than expected; Tesla recently told JPMorgan it was holding back on adding additional Model Ys while preparing to introduce Cybercab. A larger unsupervised fleet doesn’t necessarily mean more vehicles were added—some could have been shifted from supervised to unsupervised.
The comment about improved intelligence is also notable given the new “Roaming” feature recently seen on the Cybercab. This feature likely means the vehicle will roam the streets and move toward more congested areas, likely reducing wait times.
Tesla has not provided a total number of unsupervised vehicles, but this update indicates the company isn’t simply waiting for the Cybercab to roll out improvements to the robotaxi fleet. The Cybercab event is slated for early next month.
