In a fully autonomous cabin without a steering wheel, pedals, or manual controls, ride time can be devoted entirely to entertainment. Tesla is emphasizing infotainment in its purpose-built Cybercab, and Elon Musk says passengers may soon be able to connect gaming hardware directly to the vehicle.

On X, Tesla promoted the interior’s media features, including a 22-inch touchscreen, support for media streaming and gaming apps, and forthcoming Starlink connectivity. In a direct reply, @elonmusk stated: “You will be able to plug in your PlayStation or Xbox.”

The comment arrived as the Cybercab began offering commercial rides in Austin earlier this week. Early riders and attendees at Thursday’s launch event praised the spacious interior, with the 22-inch display serving as the focal point.

Full Consoles and Handheld PCs, or Just Controllers?

Musk’s wording leaves room for interpretation. Early riders such as @BLKMDL3 have already shown that wired and wireless controllers can be connected to the cabin’s USB-C ports to play built-in Tesla Arcade titles. Since controller support already exists, saying users “will be able to” suggests a potential hardware or video input capability.

The question is whether Musk meant plugging in a PlayStation or Xbox controller, or if a true HDMI video input is planned. Few riders are likely to carry a full home console into a robotaxi — though launching GTA VI from a Cybercab seat this December would certainly be a flex.

External video input would make immediate sense for portable devices. Handheld PCs like the Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally, the Nintendo Switch, and everyday work laptops are common among commuters. If Tesla adds a dedicated HDMI port or enables DisplayPort video input over USB-C, passengers could use the 22-inch display as an external monitor for gaming, streaming personal media, or finishing office work. While initial use might be limited, it would be a forward-looking addition as mobile productivity grows.

Low-Latency Gaming via Satellite

Connecting external hardware would align neatly with Tesla’s connectivity roadmap. With next-gen Starlink V5 dishes being integrated directly into Cybercabs, vehicles will be able to tap into low-latency satellite internet.

If passengers are allowed to connect their own devices to the vehicle’s onboard Starlink connection, it could enable seamless multiplayer gaming and fast cloud synchronization without the dead zones or unreliability of cellular service.

Whether Tesla delivers a full HDMI video feed or simply streamlines controller pairing, evolving the Cybercab into a mobile entertainment hub underscores how hands-free travel is reshaping time on the road.
