For several years, the Tesla Semi and its Megacharger network have been limited to North America. Although plans to bring the Semi to Europe have been known, details around timelines, form factor, and commercial logistics agreements remained unclear.
New evidence now indicates the Semi and the MCS charging network are headed to Europe sooner rather than later.
The Munich Connection
The update comes from David Forer, Sr. Project Developer for Charging at Tesla, who posted a Business Development Commercial Charging leadership role in Munich on LinkedIn.
Based in Munich, Germany, the role is tasked with closing commercial deals across Tesla’s entire charging portfolio. The description specifically highlights both Supercharging and Megacharging for the Tesla Semi.
Paving the Way for Semi
Megachargers that use the Megawatt Charging System 3.2 (MCS 3.2) standard can deliver up to 1.2MW of power to the Semi, forming the foundation for the vehicle’s rollout.
Tesla has previously confirmed it is actively adapting the Tesla Semi to meet European homologation requirements, with a potential launch in 2026 for the Class 8 electric truck to enter the European market, perhaps alongside DHL’s existing commercial contract with Tesla.
By hiring commercial business developers in Germany now, the company is laying the groundwork to ensure that high-power charging infrastructure is in place before the first fleet of Semis reaches the Autobahn.
Commercial Fleet Moat
The posting may extend beyond the Tesla Semi. Europe’s commercial trucking industry is rapidly electrifying, unlike in the United States. Legacy brands such as Mercedes, Volvo, and MAN are already deploying battery-electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) across Europe.
As the MCS charging connector becomes the universal standard for heavy-duty commercial EVs, Tesla has an opportunity to open European Megachargers to third-party trucking fleets. Similar to how the passenger Supercharger network has grown into a significant revenue stream and competitive moat by opening to non-Tesla EVs, the Megacharger network could quickly become a backbone of Europe’s future zero-emission freight industry.
