Tesla Officially Confirms Semi Launch in Europe

Tesla says it will present the Tesla Semi’s full European specifications and launch plan next month at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover, Germany, marking a significant step for electric commercial freight in the region.

The announcement was shared on X by the official @tesla_semi account along with a teaser video of the updated Class 8 truck.

This confirmation follows Tesla hiring a Business Development Manager for Semi sales in France earlier this month to lead commercial operations, pointing to an imminent European rollout.

Tesla’s Refreshed Class 8 Electric Platform

The vehicle headed for Europe is the refreshed version of the Semi that debuted last fall. High-volume production is ramping at Tesla’s dedicated Semi facility near Gigafactory Nevada to meet global demand.

The updated Semi will be offered in two battery versions: a Standard Range with 325 miles of range and a Long Range with an 822 kWh pack rated for up to 500 miles when fully loaded at an 82,000-lb gross vehicle weight. Propulsion comes from a three-motor setup on the rear axle delivering up to 1,072bhp.

Inside, the cab is reworked around driver ergonomics. It places the driver centrally and adds dual 16-inch touchscreens, integrated wireless phone chargers, convenient cup holders, and revised side windows that make it easier to reach toll tickets or paperwork.

The Semi ships with autonomous driving hardware, including 10 external cameras plus an interior cabin camera. These sensors already support active safety features such as automatic emergency braking. Tesla has said they will eventually enable full autonomy once Full Self-Driving becomes available on the Semi, reducing driver workload on long highway routes.

Scaling Nevada Output for Global Fleets

The European launch timeline indicates Nevada production is accelerating to cover international fleet deliveries in addition to sizeable North American orders.

Tesla also secured a commitment for 500 Semi units from Swedish freight mobility company Einride, the largest order so far for the refreshed model. Those vehicles are slated for North American operations, with initial customer handoffs beginning in September and the full fleet rolling out over a two-year period.

With IAA Transportation scheduled for September 15–20 in Hannover, European fleet operators are set to learn about regional pricing, 1,200 kW Megacharger infrastructure plans, delivery schedules, and potentially a pathway to local production for the all-electric heavy-duty truck.
