Holiday road-trip guide
Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Supercharger full. Now what?
Every holiday brings the same scene: a row of Teslas, a line of stalls and a screen that says 14 minutes. Here is the small fix that turns that line into an option.
- UL 2252 Listed
- 3-year warranty
- 30-day returns

Yes, a Tesla still benefits from an adapter even though NACS won. The U.S. had 37,367 CCS1 fast-charging connectors on September 1, 2026, and 74% of the new non-Tesla fast-charging connectors built in Q3 2026 were CCS1.
A CCS1 adapter turns those stations into your Plan B when a Supercharger is down, full or too far away. You will not need it on every trip. It is insurance for the day you do.

The charging network beyond Tesla's.
The numbers behind Plan B.
7 reasons to carry Plan B
Superchargers are great. These are the moments when a second option matters.
Even a 99% network has a bad day
Reports put Supercharger uptime around 98% to 99%. That is excellent, and it still means some stalls are down on any given day. On a travel weekend, the ones that work have a line.
With an adapter, the next Electrify America, EVgo or ChargePoint site is a detour of minutes, not a crisis.
- ~98-99% reported uptime
There is a second network, and it is bigger than you think
The U.S. had 37,367 CCS1 fast-charging connectors on September 1, 2026, at roughly 12,000 locations outside the Supercharger network. That is Alternative Fuels Data Center data, and an adapter puts all of it on your map.
That is a lot of Plan B.
- 37,367 CCS1 connectors
- 12,000+ locations

Try OmniVoltCCS1 is not going away this winter
Between January and the start of September 2026, the U.S. added 6,001 CCS1 connectors. In Q3, 74% of new non-Tesla fast-charging connectors were CCS1 and 23% were NACS.
Networks are adding NACS cables, but swapping hardware takes years. CCS1 chargers keep working long after the plug debate ends.
- +6,001 CCS1 in 8 months
- 23% of new non-Tesla = NACS
Same car, same speed
The adapter is a passive pass-through. Your Tesla and the station negotiate power the way they normally do, and the lower limit wins. OmniVolt passes up to 250 kW, and most stations deliver less, so the station is almost always the limit.
The plug shape does not make charging faster or slower. Pick stations by power rating and your battery level.
- Up to 250 kW DC
Highways don't always come with a Supercharger
Federally funded NEVI stations line highway corridors, and many were built as CCS1. On some rural stretches, the closest fast charger is not a Supercharger at all.
That is the stretch where an adapter stops being a nice-to-have.
Keep it in the frunk Your glovebox has room. One adapter. CCS1 fast charging and J1772 Level 2.
Try OmniVoltIt is two adapters in one
OmniVolt also handles J1772 Level 2 (up to 80 A at 240 V). That covers hotels, workplaces and a relative's garage, where there is often a J1772 handle and no Tesla cable.
One item covers fast charging on the road and slow charging when you stay the night.
- CCS1 DC + J1772 AC
Two ends, one adapter The only thing working against you is the calendar
Shipping is free in the U.S. and takes 7 to 15 business days. If you want it in the glovebox before Thanksgiving week, that means ordering in the next couple of weeks, not the week of.
OmniVolt is UL 2252 Listed, with a built-in thermal cutoff, an IP67 weather-sealed locking connector, a 3-year warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Check your Tesla supports CCS first (steps below).

Plan B for the day it matters.
Superchargers stay your first choice. The adapter is what you reach for when they are full, down or too far away.
With OmniVolt:
- CCS1 stations become an option
- Nothing to install in the car
- Fits in the glovebox
Without an adapter:
- Limited to the Supercharger network
- Stuck when stalls are full or down
- Longer detours on busy weekends

Most Teslas built in the last several years can charge at CCS1 stations through an adapter. Confirm yours in the car.

Teslas built before about 2020 may need a one-time hardware retrofit from Tesla for CCS1 fast charging. J1772 Level 2 charging does not need it.
Questions, answered
Does my Tesla need an adapter if it already has NACS?
Only to reach non-Tesla chargers. Tesla Superchargers use your native port and need nothing extra.
Does an adapter make my Tesla charge faster?
No. Charging speed is set by your car and the station. The adapter is a passive pass-through, so it lets them connect without slowing them down.
Will it work with my older Tesla?
J1772 Level 2 charging works on Teslas of every age. CCS1 fast charging needs a car with CCS support, and cars built before about 2020 may need a retrofit from Tesla.
How long does shipping take?
Shipping is free in the U.S., with delivery in 7 to 15 business days.
Don't let one full stall ruin the trip.
