Tesla Plans Charging Hub in Austin With 80 Wireless Chargers

Tesla is building another major charging site in Austin that may play a key role in the forthcoming Cybercab robotaxi. Permits for a Supercharger at 405 E. St. Elmo Road outline two phases: phase 1 with 48 V4 Supercharger posts, and phase 2 with equipment sized to support 80 wireless chargers. The plans surface as Tesla readies its upcoming Cybercab launch event.

Converting an Existing Logistics Lot

Google Street View shows the property already serving as a logistics area, with signage marking it as a Tesla transporter drop-off and pickup location.

For the initial phase, the equipment schedule lists 12 V3.5 Supercharger cabinets supplying 48 V4 Supercharger posts.

The drawings label the project as an upgrade to the existing Tesla parking lot, adding charging posts, transformers, lighting, security cameras, and Wi‑Fi access points.

Tesla appears to have purchased a storage unit and the adjacent lot, converted the area to logistics use, and is now turning it into a Supercharger. The changes before and after the purchases are visible in site imagery.

Plan Adds Support for 80 Wireless Chargers

Notes on the site plan specify a V4 charging cabinet intended to support 80 wireless chargers in phase 2.

Although the Cybercab includes a charging port at the rear bumper, the vehicle is expected to move to wireless charging exclusively. The site can serve the current Model Y Robotaxi fleet and early Cybercabs via V4 posts while laying the groundwork for automated charging.

Cybercab Launch Is Getting Close

The charging plans emerge as Tesla has officially confirmed a Cybercab launch event. Tesla is giving current Robotaxi riders a chance to attend the Cybercab event, with qualifying rides running through August 23 and winners scheduled to be announced August 25. The company has not yet announced the event’s date or location, but it is speculated to occur in late August or early September in Austin, Texas. Thanks to MarcoRP for finding these plans.
