Tesla App Roadmap: Mac App, More Controls, Immersive Powerwall View

Tesla app big-screen layout

Tesla’s mobile app now features a true big-screen layout. Alex Guichet, who led the new layout for the iPad, iPhone Duo, and Android tablets and foldables, shared on X that the team’s next steps include an immersive Powerwall view and, eventually, a Mac app.

Guichet said the aim is for the app to feel like the vehicle’s screen.

Bringing More to the Tesla App

Tesla’s in-car visualizations run on Unreal Engine, and the plan is to bring more of those experiences to the app. That could include the 3D models behind themed modes like Santa Mode and Halloween Mode, as well as additional information already shown in the car.

The latest update moves in that direction: on larger screens like the iPad, the vehicle visualization now includes ambient background lighting and reflections, and the frunk and trunk controls sit directly on the car, mirroring the parked visualization in the vehicle. For now, these elements are available only in big-screen layouts on devices such as iPads or the iPhone Duo.

Controls and Navigation

Expansions are not limited to visuals. Today, the app lets users pause, skip, or adjust volume, but it does not allow choosing the audio source or selecting what’s playing. The Robotaxi app offers more granular controls.

Immersive Powerwall View Coming Soon

For Tesla Energy owners, Guichet said an “immersive” Powerwall view is arriving in a few weeks. It missed the main release so the team could finish some final polish.

Tesla Mac App

Asked about a Mac app, Guichet said it’s coming “at some point.” In the meantime, the Tesla app already works on a Mac through Apple’s iPhone Mirroring feature.

Ongoing Updates

Guichet said the team will continue updating and polishing the app in future releases. The big-screen layout has already rolled out for iOS and iPadOS, while some Android users are still awaiting the update.
