After Tesla unveiled its dedicated robotaxi, Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) publicly questioned the timeline and placed a bet that Tesla would not be able to sell and deliver a Cybercab to a regular customer for $30,000 or less before 2027.

"There's no way they're actually going to be able to do that. If they do, I will shave my head on camera. I'm that confident they won't do it."

Cybercab For Sale This Year
In response to a recap of the wager on X, Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla will sell the Cybercab to consumers this year for $30,000.
The first Cybercab has already come off the production line, and full production is expected to begin in April.
Tesla plans to operate the vehicles itself at first to address initial issues. The Cybercab is expected to debut in Austin, where Tesla recently began fully autonomous driving. Because the vehicle does not have a steering wheel or brakes, it depends on being able to drive fully autonomously in its operating area. Availability will therefore be limited at the start and broaden as the Robotaxi’s autonomous footprint expands, increasing the number of consumers who can purchase the Cybercab.

Tesla also reached a key manufacturing milestone: the first Cybercab officially rolled off the production line.
This initial unit represents pre-volume production rather than a consumer-ready build, but it is an important first step. It signals that Tesla has finalized the Cybercab’s unique unboxed manufacturing process, tooling, and supply chain logistics required to build the two-seater, steering-wheel-less vehicle at scale.
If Tesla delivers the Cybercab for $30,000 before the end of the year, MKBHD would owe his bet to shave his head, and the result would be an affordable, mass-market autonomous vehicle that undercuts the average price of a new car in America.
