Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes Near Lot Full of Tesla Cybercabs [VIDEO]

An aviation accident near Miami International Airport narrowly missed destroying dozens of Tesla’s next‑generation autonomous vehicles. On Sunday, an Amazon Prime Air Boeing 767 cargo freighter overshot the runway during stormy conditions, broke through perimeter barriers, and came to rest beside a parking lot filled with gold Tesla Cybercabs.
Authorities reported at least five fatalities and multiple injuries after the widebody cargo aircraft crossed 67th Avenue and struck several road vehicles. Broadcast recordings showed emergency responders working to free trapped victims from the wreckage.
Footage from the scene shows the skidding plane stopping just short of a staging area containing dozens of Cybercabs.
Responding on X to a post about the nearby cluster of Tesla vehicles, @elonmusk offered a one-word reaction:
“Weird”
A couple of days before the crash, @SawyerMerritt shared photos of the parking lot and noted the concentration of Cybercabs there.
Staging Fleet Depots Ahead of Wider Rollouts
The sight of dozens of Cybercabs parked adjacent to the airport runway drew attention because public Cybercab rides are currently confined to Texas. Cybercabs officially joined the Robotaxi fleet and began carrying paid passengers in Austin last week, and Tesla has not formally announced when the purpose-built vehicle will expand to other regions.
Florida has quickly become a primary proving ground for the Robotaxi service. Modified Model Y crossovers have provided driverless trips locally since early July, when Tesla expanded its Robotaxi network to Miami. Operations also broadened across the state last month with the launch of Robotaxi rides in Orlando and Tampa.
According to locals, Cybercabs have been parked in this specific airport-adjacent lot for months, with counts at times higher than what was present during Sunday’s crash.
Validation Units or Launch Prep?
The staging yard is a strong indication that Miami could be one of Tesla’s next Cybercab markets.
Before passenger rides began, Tesla tested steering wheel-less Cybercabs in Austin for months to train vision models on public roads. Running validation fleets in Miami ahead of commercial operation would provide engineering teams with real-world telemetry across local roadways.

Alternatively, the lot could function as a regional staging depot. As Giga Texas ramps production output, storing inventory near major hubs would allow rapid deployment into active commercial zones once regulatory approvals clear.
While federal regulators continue reviewing certification documentation for the autonomous two-seater, the assembly of fleets in South Florida indicates that Tesla is preparing to take the Cybercab well beyond Texas borders.
