Tesla has not confirmed any of the official details. These come from published reports.
Tesla's version is reportedly a window
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in February 2026 that Tesla was taking a windowed approach, with CarPlay running as an app window alongside Tesla's own software. It was reportedly standard wireless CarPlay, not CarPlay Ultra.

Bloomberg says Tesla has no plans to integrate Android Auto. If you carry an Android phone, the official version will not help you.

Reports suggested it could be limited to newer Teslas with the AMD processor and not older Intel cars. Tesla has not said.
Space Box already requires an AMD Ryzen processor, so check yours first. If Tesla supports older cars later, that is a point for the official version.
There is still no release date
Not a Tesla App expects CarPlay in this year's Holiday Update. That is the publisher's expectation, not a Tesla announcement, and Autoevolution wrote on October 15 that the project "might have been axed already."
If you want CarPlay this winter, waiting is a gamble.

The Space Box product page lists built-in Netflix and YouTube, full-screen mirroring from a phone, tablet or laptop, and Siri, Google Assistant or ChatGPT voice control. Use video only when you are parked.

Space Box setup takes a few steps: plug it into the Tesla's USB port, join its Wi-Fi network, open the setup address in the Tesla browser and pair your phone over Bluetooth. It needs a phone with mobile data, and firmware updates are manual.
A built-in feature from Tesla would almost certainly be simpler. That is a real advantage of waiting.

Wait if you only use an iPhone, you are happy with a CarPlay window, and you do not need it before the holidays.
Buy now if you use Android, you want CarPlay this winter, you want streaming and mirroring while parked, or you simply do not trust a date nobody has confirmed. Space Box has a 30-day return window.
