Still glancing at Waze in the cupholder?
Tesla nav plans your Supercharger stops. Waze spots the police. SpaceBox puts Waze, Google Maps and Spotify on the Tesla screen, and Tesla nav keeps the route.

The short answer
Set your destination in Tesla nav first. It still picks the Superchargers and Autopilot or FSD still follows its route. Then open SpaceBox and run Waze, Google Maps or Spotify from your phone on the same screen. One thing to know up front: FSD drives Tesla's route, never Waze's. Waze is there for the reports.
Check if your Tesla fits →Most owners who search for CarPlay don't want to throw out Tesla's navigation. They like it. It knows the battery, it plans the charging stops, and Autopilot follows it.
What it doesn't show is the stuff Waze drivers report to each other: the police car past the overpass, the speed trap that's always on the same stretch, the crash two miles up. So the phone stays in the cupholder running Waze, and you glance down at it at 75 mph. Or the chime goes off and you don't look down in time.
Long trips are worse: Tesla picks the Supercharger, then you type that same Supercharger into Waze by hand so both maps agree.
"Waze is ALWAYS on my screen. Why, because it tells me where the Police are hiding," a driver who covers 1,500 miles a week wrote under a Tesla CarPlay video. Plenty of Tesla owners drive the same way.
“I need the Tesla nav for charging station info but prefer Waze for spotting police”

The list
Five things, starting with the one owners worry about most: does Tesla nav still drive the route?
Nothing about Tesla's navigation changes. Your destination, the Supercharger stops it picks, the battery estimate on arrival and the voice prompts all keep running.
Autopilot and FSD keep following Tesla's route too. That is the part people worry about, and it is the reason to set the destination in Tesla nav before you open anything else.

Waze runs from your phone through CarPlay or Android Auto and shows on the Tesla screen, the one you already glance at. Police, speed traps, crashes and road hazards that other drivers report show up there instead of in your lap.
Google Maps works the same way, if that is the app you trust for traffic.
“This thing works as described. ... Has. slight lag, but nothing that is too noticeable. I used it yesterday ... and used my navigation and fsd, but used the carplay for Waze, and everything worked amazing.”

Because it is your phone's CarPlay or Android Auto, your Spotify account, your playlists and your podcasts come along. Siri or Google Assistant reads and answers messages by voice.
Apple Music, Audible and the rest of your phone's driving apps work the same way.

Here is the honest answer to the question owners ask most: yes, SpaceBox shows CarPlay through the Tesla browser. That is exactly why it needs no flashing, no rooting and no tools. Unplug it and the car is the way it left the factory.
Setup is three steps from the product page: plug SpaceBox into the USB port with the included cable, join the H-BOX Wi-Fi and open hbox.link in the Tesla browser, then pair your phone by Bluetooth.
Your phone's mobile data runs the apps, so Tesla Premium Connectivity is not required. While SpaceBox is in use, the Tesla's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth stay connected to it; other vehicle functions keep working.

Lag and Bluetooth drops are the complaints you will read about any CarPlay box, ours included. SpaceBox runs wired as well as wireless, so a cable is the fallback when a connection misbehaves.
System updates are free, the help center is open 24/7, and SpaceBox carries a 2-year warranty.

No. Autopilot and FSD follow Tesla's own navigation. Set the destination in Tesla nav, then use Waze on the screen for police, traffic and hazard reports.
CarPlay shows through the Tesla browser over SpaceBox's own Wi-Fi. That is why nothing in the car is flashed or modified, and why unplugging it puts everything back.
No. Your phone's mobile data runs the apps. You need a phone with mobile data, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth switched on.

Yes. Unused returns go back within 30 days of delivery through the Return Center, which is why the one-screen fit check above is worth doing first. Once it is in your car, the 2-year warranty and the 24/7 help center cover it; write to hello@teslahubs.com.
Next time you pull onto the highway, set the destination in Tesla nav like you always do. Superchargers picked, Autopilot on the route. Then the police report past the overpass shows up on the screen you are already looking at, not in the cupholder. SpaceBox is $139.99 (regular $299) with a 2-year warranty and 30-day returns.
