Tesla owners · Caliper rust
Your Tesla's Calipers Aren't Dirty. They're Rusting, and No Wash Will Ever Fix It. Here's the 30-Minute Aluminum Cover That Hides It for Good.
Stock calipers on a standard Model 3 and Model Y are iron, and iron rusts. No cleaner fixes that. A bolt-on aluminum shell covers every inch of orange you can see, cannot rust itself, and needs no paint, no glue and no drilling.

You Washed the Car. The Calipers Are Still Orange. Here Is Why Scrubbing Will Never Fix It.
You clean the wheels, step back, and the one thing that looks ten years old is sitting right behind the spokes: a gray caliper blooming orange at the edges and in the casting lines. It is the first thing anyone sees when they look at a wheel, and on a clean car it stands out even more.
The forums will tell you it is road salt, a cheap car wash, or "normal, ignore it." Salt makes it faster. The car wash did nothing. And "normal" is not a fix.

Here is the actual mechanism. The caliper is an iron casting bolted out in the open. Every brake stop grinds iron dust off the rotor and pads and packs it onto the caliper, where it holds water against the metal. Every stop heats the caliper, every drive home cools it, and that cycle keeps cracking any protective skin of oxide. Rain starts the reaction. Salt water speeds it up. You can clean it off on Sunday, and it is back by the next rain.
You cannot wash away a material. You can only cover it.
Why the Service Center Will Never Fix It
Ask at your next service visit and you will get the honest answer: "That's normal." A rusty caliper brakes exactly as hard as a clean one, so there is nothing to repair and no line item to write. Tesla's only answer to good-looking calipers is the Performance trim, which ships with red calipers and costs thousands more. You do not get to buy that at the service desk.
So "normal" is true, and useless. It explains the rust. It does not mean you have to look at it.
The Three Fixes Owners Try First, and Exactly Why Each One Comes Back
Chips at the edges, then rusts under the chips
Paint is a thin film on a part that gets hot, flexes and gets hit by grit. Done right it is wheels-off, masked and cured: $500 or more and around three days without the car. Done with a rattle can, it looks like it forever. Either way it is permanent.
Glue loses to brake heat
Fine in the listing photo. Then the caliper hits operating temperature, the adhesive softens, and the edges lift. Now you have a peeling sticker on top of the rust.
Plastic warps, painted metal peels, glue lets go
One buyer of another brand's painted covers wrote that they "looked great, and I was very happy for about 4 months ... and then the paint started peeling off them." Universal plastic shells rattle and fade next to the brake.

So the requirements write themselves: nothing painted onto the caliper, nothing glued, nothing plastic, cut for your exact car, and it has to come back off.
The Fix: An Aluminum Shell Between the Road and the Iron, Held On by Steel, Not Glue
Every part of the design answers one of the failures above.
- Aluminum shell, powder-coated. Aluminum does not rust, and brake heat does not warp it the way it warps plastic.
- 304 stainless steel clips and screws. Mechanically clamped to the caliper body. Zero glue holding it on.
- Cut per model. Seven fitments, from the 2017 Model 3 to the 2025 Juniper and Model S/X.
- No drilling, no modifications. Pads, rotor and brake lines are never touched.
- Reversible. Unscrew it and the car is stock again, for a lease return or a sale.
- Everything in the box. Four covers, clips, screws, Loctite, tools and a video install guide.

The rust underneath is still iron doing what iron does. The difference is you will never see it again. What you see through the spokes is a powder-coated aluminum shell in one of four finishes, and aluminum does not turn orange.

Your Saturday: 30 Minutes, a Jack, and the Tools in the Box
- Wheel off. Jack one corner and pull the wheel. The caliper is right there.
- Hook the shell on. It is cut for your model, so it only seats one way.
- Clip and screw. Stainless clip behind the caliper, a drop of the included Loctite, tighten with the included tool.
- Wheel back on. Torque the lugs, next corner. Four corners, about 30 minutes, with the video guide open on your phone.
No shop, no masking tape, no cure time. As one reviewer put it: "I installed it myself at home in 30 minutes."

The Only Way to Get This Wrong Is to Pick the Wrong Car. Here Is How Not To.
Read our 1-star reviews and they say the same thing: the covers did not fit the car they went on. Every one of them is about fit, so here is the ten-second check that prevents it.
- Model Y from 2025 (full-width light bar front and rear)? Pick Juniper, not Model Y.
- Model 3 from 2024 (slim headlights, no front fog lights)? Pick Highland, not Model 3.
- Model Y with a VIN starting XP7? It was built in Berlin. Pick Model Y Berlin.
- Model S or X? Pick the year range. 2018-2022 and 2023-2025 are different shells.
- Performance or Plaid trim? Skip it. Your calipers are already painted and a different shape.
Still not sure? Email a photo of your caliper to hello@teslahubs.com before you order and we will tell you which set fits.
Straight Answers Before You Order
Will salt and winter slush ruin them?
The shell is powder-coated aluminum, and aluminum does not rust. Salt sits on the outside of the cover the same way it sat on the bare iron. Rinse them when you wash the wheels.
Why not the cheaper set on Amazon?
Check three things on any set: what it is made of (plastic or painted metal, or powder-coated aluminum), how it holds on (glue, or stainless clips and screws), and whether it is cut for your exact caliper or sold as universal. Ours is aluminum, clipped, cut per model, and backed by a lifetime defect warranty. If a cheaper set passes all three, buy that one.
Will they fly off at highway speed?
They are held by 304 stainless steel clips and screws, with Loctite on the threads, not by glue. Adhesive is what fails on cheap covers when the brake gets hot. Ours has none holding it on.
Do they change how the car brakes?
No. The shell sits over the outside of the stock caliper. Nothing touches the pads, the rotor or the brake lines. The stock caliper does all the braking, exactly as before.
What about brake heat?
The shell is aluminum alloy, not plastic, so brake heat does not warp it. It is powder-coated aluminum, not paint on a hot iron part.
Can I take them off when I sell or return a lease?
Yes. Undo the screws, unhook the shell, and the caliper is exactly as the factory left it. That is the whole difference from paint.
What if they do not fit?
Every set is covered by the 30-Day Perfect Fit Guarantee and our 30-day return window, plus a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. Pick your car with the check above and email hello@teslahubs.com if you are unsure.
